The official “Welcome Back Party” for UMHS earlier this month was a great success. The theme of the Fall 2014 Welcome Back Party was “Hipsters vs. Hippies.” Students donned various costumes portraying styles of both genre. The fashion stylings of many students were commendable. Ruben Cabrera transformed himself into a "trendy hipster;" his entrance caused just as much surprise as Joshuam Ruiz Vega's rendition of the hipster.

The hippies were out in their numbers; floral headbands, tie-dye shirts and peace signs filled every nook off the dance floor. It was evident that students were very excited about coming out and having fun.

The night progressed seamlessly under the musical styling of DJ Legal, who kept the students dancing the whole night through. Arms danced high as songs such as “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar filled the room, full of students from one of the leading Caribbean medical schools. Our Hispanic population has grown much in the recent months and I am sure all of them felt right at home as we all joined in on the fun. Music selections were also played from numerous cultures around the world. This melting pot of cultures and energies serve as the best recipe for a night that was full of freedom, intense energy and fun.
