UMHS Med Student & Faculty Blogs

Posted by Scott Harrah
August 31, 2016

Want to know what it’s really like to be a Caribbean medical school student? Read one of the many blogs written by UMHS students (and faculty). Reading med student blogs helps with the school selection process.

Although we don’t think of medical students as people with time to blog, many make it an integral part of their medical education, and you might be surprised by how outstanding many are as writers.

The UMHS Endeavour looks at a list of blogs written by UMHS students and staff and faculty, with a brief description of each. (Please note that student blogs are not affiliated with UMHS in any way and represent the opinions of their authors, and not that of UMHS.)

Laura Ellson is finishing up clinical rotations and just finished Step 2 CK. Her blog covers everything from why you should upload a photo on residency applications to first visiting St. Kitts with her family to see the state-of-the-art campus to student orientation, juggling her time while studying for exams, getting good letters of recommendation, study tips, how to register for clinical exams, and more.

My Journey Through Medicine

UMHS student Aprylle Thompson began her blog in 2015. She writes, “I started this blog to document the journey throughout my medical career. I hope to inspire at least one person with my blog. Then, I have fulfilled my task. Enjoy!” With her posts on such topics as being a UMHS student, a catamaran trip to dancing and how she defines success, we're sure Aprylle will inspire many people.

Adventures in Caribbean Medical School

UMHS student Amy Jones writes about everything from why to study at a Caribbean medical school to the 5th semester in Portland, Maine, her favorite USMLE Step 1 study books, and more.
