Shivayogi Bhusnurmath, M.D. Pathology, M.B.B.S., FRCPath (London, UK)

Dean of Basic Sciences, Professor of Pathology

Dr. Bhusnurmath has spent decades in academic medicine at leading medical schools as a Senior Associate Dean, Dean of Academic Affairs, Chair of Pathology, and a faculty member.  He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership.  He had also served as Interim Chair of departments in Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Clinical Skills. He has been involved in the oversight of faculty recruitment, faculty development activities, and monitoring of student success through academic progress committees.  He possesses expertise in accreditation, and has participated in multiple accreditation and state approvals.  

For over four decades, Dr. Bhusnurmath taught pathology to medical students and postgraduate residents in countries across the globe, including India, Nigeria, Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East, Canada, the UK, and Grenada. He has published more than 130 papers that have been cited over 1400 times. He is on the editorial board and a reviewer for several prestigious international medical journals of pathology and medical education such as Academic Medicine, Medical Educator, etc. He has extensive experience in self-study documentation for accreditation activities of medical schools. He was a member of the executive committee of CAAM-HP (Caribbean Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions).

Dr. Bhusnurmath will focus on providing quality education and ensuring the continued growth and development of UMHS. He is student-oriented, maintains an open-door policy, and will continue to teach during his tenure as Dean.
