Mirza Ali, M.D., M.B.B.S.
Professor of Pathology and Course Director of Pathology I and II
Dr. Mirza Karrar Ali earned his MD Pathology (Residency) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), both from the prestigious Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, India.
Dr. Ali began teaching Pathology in 2009 and has till now over 14 years of experience in Medical Education and Pathology teaching. Prior to joining UMHS, he worked as an Associate Professor and Course Director in Pathology at the American University of Barbados.
Dr. Ali’s first academic position Internationally was at American International Medical University in St. Lucia where he worked as Associate Professor in Pathology from 2012 to 2016. The teaching methodologies included classroom lecturing for small and large groups along with practical and laboratory demonstrations. He had initiated a fortnightly seminar series on interesting tumour cases for students. These seminars were to provide important information as to how Pathologist arrives at the diagnosis and will contribute in the overall management of tumour cases.
During his stay in St. Lucia, Dr. Ali was also a Consultant Pathologist (Surgical Pathologist and Cytopathologist) at St. Jude Hospital, Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, where he independently reported and signed off cases of Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology.
Dr. Ali had also worked as a Chief Pathologist at a Multispecialty and Tertiary Care Centre, Santosh Hospital, India. He has Independently performed and reported FNA biopsies, including USG and CT guided with a special interest in Breast malignancies.
He is a member of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) and a permanent member of the Karnataka chapter of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (KCIAPM). His research interests include Histopathological Spectrum of Upper Endoscopic Biopsy Lesions with a special interest in GERD. Dr. Ali has also successfully completed the International Lead Auditors Certificate Program and Laboratory Quality Management System, as per ISO 15189:2012 and ISO/IEC 19011.
He has also presented many oral papers and posters on various State and National level conferences.
Throughout his teaching career, he has also been a co-chair and member of various academic committees.
