Housing for 5th semester students

Like in St. Kitts, all student housing in Portland is off-campus. There is a wide variety of housing to satisfy students' needs. Housing stock includes apartments, houses, and hotels. Some accommodations may include shared homes or apartments with a landlord.

Students are advised to deal directly with the landlords, rental companies, and hotels. Many landlords in Maine require a deposit and or references from prior landlords. Some may also require a background and credit report. Make sure to read all contracts. Please be sure you understand the use of deposits for damage and cleaning. In addition, please be aware that this list is only a guide. UMHS does not contract or negotiate on students' behalf.

UMHS Maine housing database

• To access the Housing Database go to: https://umhs-housing.com
• Current students and transfer students will be provided a username and password.
• Emails and phone numbers for all landlords are listed at the bottom of the description for each unit.
• All housing units are fully furnished.
• All landlords listed on the database are aware that rental terms will be four months in length.
• If you wish to sign a lease for a different duration than four months, you may need to negotiate with the landlord. This arrangement would be between the student and the landlord. 
  • It may be easier to arrange for hotel accommodation if you are planning to lease for less than four months.

Warning: To avoid housing scams, verify all rental contracts and the legitimacy of the rental operator before releasing funds. UMHS’ finance department can assist you in verifying these things. For your financial security, we strongly recommend that students do not use Craigslist.

Campus directions

The UMHS Maine campus is located at 24 Atlantic Place, South Portland, ME 04106. It is on the corner of Darling Avenue and Foden Road, South Portland. You will have difficulty with directions if you put this address in your GPS. However, Google Maps directions for 24 Atlantic Place, South Portland, Maine 04106 are correct. We are located in the same building as the Prometric Test Center.
