Alfred Roy, M.D.
Professor of Pathology I
Dr. Alfred Roy received his MBBS and MD in Pathology from KMC, Manipal, India.
He began his career in 1994 as an anatomic pathologist at KMC Manipal, where he was also involved in teaching medical students enrolled in the University of the West Indies (UWI) twinning program. From 2000 to 2002, he served as Registrar in Pathology at Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, Bahamas, where he covered anatomic pathology, cytopathology, cancer screening, and autopsies for hospital-brought-in deaths.
Following this, Dr. Roy was appointed to the University of Malacca twinning program while continuing his association with KMC Manipal as an anatomic pathologist. During this period, he received specialized training in dermatopathology. In 2006, he joined St. Matthew’s University, Grand Cayman. From 2011 to 2013, he served as Professor of Pathology in the Antigua-Manipal twinning program. In 2013, he joined the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS), St. Kitts, where he served as faculty until 2022.
Subsequently, Dr. Roy was appointed as a Clinical Pathologist at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, USA. One year later, he was appointed Professor of Pathology at Ross University School of Medicine, Barbados. In March 2024, he rejoined UMHS, St. Kitts.
Dr. Roy has extensive experience in anatomic pathology, cytopathology, hematology, and autopsy pathology, including brought-in-dead hospital cases. He has taught pathology to students in medicine, dentistry, nursing, and allied health sciences. His additional training includes dermatopathology, problem-based learning, cytopathology from the American Society of Cytopathology, and immunofluorescence techniques for renal biopsies.
