Dr. Iris M. Saltiel

Learning Skills Specialist

 

Dr. Iris M. Saltiel is currently the learning skills specialist and professor of medical education at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts. Prior to joining UMHS, Dr. Saltiel was a professor in the department of Education at the American University of Antigua.

 


She completed her doctoral studies in Education Leadership and Supervision at Fordham University in New York, USA. She had previously completed her M.Ed. in Adult Education at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey (USA) and a B.S. in Special Education at Trenton State College in Trenton, New Jersey (USA). She also has participated in post-doctoral studies in Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies at the University of Georgia.


As a scholar, Dr. Saltiel’s work has primarily been in the area of collaboration among adult learners, faculty and various organizations (corporate, nonprofit, higher education). Her primary research interests have centered on adult learners and collaboration, and, partnerships in learning.

 

 

Dr. Saltiel had a distinguished career as a professor at Troy University where, in 2010, she was promoted to full professor and chosen from among the 500 faculty to receive the annual Wallace D. Malone Distinguished faculty award. These two events were resulting from her work with students, the community, research publications and successful leadership as the Coordinator of the Educational Administration and Leadership Program and then Director of the Quality Enhancement Institute. She was then recruited by Columbus State University to be the Director of the Faculty Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. In addition to filling that role she served as a professor in the department of Foundations, Education Leadership and Research until joining the faculty of the Educational Enhancement Department at the American University of Antigua (AUA) in August of 2016. She left AUA in July 2018 to serve as the Learning Skills Specialist at the University of Medicine & Health Sciences in St. Kitts.
