The curriculum at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) is modeled after the best U.S. medical schools. The academic program is both accelerated and rigorous, with a focus on preparing students for licensure in the United States.
UMHS operates on a three semester schedule, with classes beginning in September, January, and May. With this continuous schedule, students complete the 10 semester program in just over 3 years. Each semester is approximately 15 weeks in length.
The Basic Science curriculum, semesters 1-4, is offered at the UMHS state-of-the-art campus in St. Kitts. Our faculty are highly qualified and appropriately credentialed. They are recruited primarilly from the United States. We maintain small classes to ensure a personalized eduction. Students are introduced to clinical material at our 24 bed simulation center and the local hospital. Shelf Examinations will be utilized throughtout the Basic Science Program.
The Clinical Program, semesters 5-10, is completed at affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States and Puerto Rico. We are currently affiliated with hospitals in Georgia, New York, Connecticut, Michigan, and Illinois. Our fifth semester program is currently held in Portland Maine. The fifth semester includes both Introduction to Clinical Medicine II and an intensive USMLE Review Program through Kaplan Medical. Upon completion of the fifth semester, students sit for USMLE Step 1.
