University of Medicine and Health Sciences-St. Kitts (UMHS)
New Student Orientation and Registration - May 7 - May 11, 2008
The University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) prides itself on providing students with a personalized medical education, and that begins with New Student Orientation. UMHS developed an orientation program designed to give students opportunities to get to know each other, meet faculty members and administrators, and learn more about their new home – St. Kitts.
New students will first be welcomed by President Warren Ross and Dean William Thurman. The administrative staff will be introduced and any initial questions will be answered
Several seminars will occur throughout orientation to help new students become familiar with their unique living environment. Students will meet with the St. Kitts police to learn about traffic safety and security. Local government officials will meet with students to discuss visas, immigration, and national security. New students will also participate in a hurricane awareness seminar.
Campus tours will be available that include orientation sessions at the Anne Ross Library and the Learning Resource Center. A bus tour of St. Kitts will help students get acquainted with the island, where stores are located, what the capital city of Basseterre is like, and where students can go for fun and recreation.
Representatives from Cable and Wireless (telephones), 888 Long Distance (phone cards), and the cable company will be on campus during New Student Orientation.
Two great activities have been planned to welcome students and give them additional opportunities to meet each other, the faculty, and the dean. There will be a welcome dinner at the Oasis Bar and Grill. The Oasis is a relaxing sports bar and eating establishment on the beach.
