I am extremely pleased to welcome you to the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS). Our commitment and passion is to your education. We are a medical school that believes small class size affords us the opportunity to provide you with an exceptional medical education.

Our faculty is highly qualified and recruited primarily from the United States and Canada. All have years of experience teaching medical students and residents.  They are at UMHS  because they love to teach.

Close faculty interaction with our students permits us to integrate the curriculum to provide a solid foundation for the integration of basic sciences into clinical medicine. Problem-based learning will be a strong component of our Introduction to Professional Practice and Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses.

The Basic Science Program, semesters 1 – 4, takes place at our state of the art campus on the beautiful island of St. Kitts, West Indies. Our campus is a model to other schools.  Our facilities are new, our campus has wireless connectivity throughout, and our classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest audio visual technology to enhance the quality of your educational experience.  We are quite proud of our 24-bed virtual hospital environment with over 20 computerized human simulators, including SimMan®, SimBaby®, Noel® and I-Stan®.

The campus is continuing to grow.  We have just completed a new faculty building the provides each faculty member the space to permit all students to seek individual faculty assistance when needed.  Plans are underway to add an additional auditorium and small group learning classrooms, as well as a student services building.

We believe that students come first. We have a strong Student Government Association (SGA); we have student representation on many university committees and actively seek student input on various academic issues.

I am proud to have been appointed to the position of UMHS Dean of Basic Sciences. It is rewarding to work with a dedicated faculty, enthusiastic students and an administrative team that has a single goal – the graduation of compassionate, caring, competent, well-rounded physicians, devoted to a lifetime of learning and who will be prepared to address the rapidly changing face of medical practice throughout their careers.
