Laptop Computers Print E-mail

UMHS Student Laptop Computers are Required

All students are required to bring laptop computers to classes. Students use their llaptop
computers to access each day’s lectures and slides, periodicals, journals and research databases.  Students also use their laptop computers in classes such as Histology, Pathology, and in the Anatomy Laboratory.

Minimum PC Specifications are as follows:

Operating System: 

Genuine Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2 or Genuine Windows Vista Business 32/64-bit, Windows 7 Business or Ultimate. 

Processor:   Core 2 Duo 
Memory:

2 GB minimum (4 GB Recommended) 

Hard Drive:   120 GB minimum; Hard drive speed (7200rpm) 
Video Card:   Intel Graphics Media card or any other high-end graphics video card 
Audio:
 
Standard stereo speakers, built-in microphone, headphone jacks (stereo). Microphone jack mono or stereo) 
Wireless Networking:
 
Wi-FI 802.11   a/b/g/n 
Network Interface:
 
10/100 Mbs or 10/100/1000 Mbs Ethernet Port 
Mouse:  Touch pad pointing device or external mouse 
Office Program:
 
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 or Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 
Software: Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 
DVD Player Program:
 
Power DVD, Cyberlink Power DVD, OR DVD x Player 
DVD or CD Burning Software:
 
Sonic, NTI CD & DVD Maker, or Nero 
Surge Protector:  APC or Targus or Belkin 
   
   

Apple Mac Computers

Please be advised that any student with an Apple Mac computer will need the following software installed to access our histology database:

  1. Parallels Desktop for Mac or  Boot Camp from Mac OS X Leopard/Snow Leopard or VM Ware Fusion (These software packages allow you to put a Microsoft Operating system on a Mac)
  2. Genuine Windows XP Professional Service pack 2 operating system or genuine Windows Vista Business 32/64 –bit, Service Pack 1, or Windows 7 Business or Ultimate  (These are Microsoft operating systems)
  3. Microsoft Office Professional 2007 or Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 (These are Microsoft Applications)
