Once new students arrive in St. Kitts and settle in their new living arrangements, a variety of acitivities are planned for new students at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS).
New Student Orientation
Students coming to the University of Medicine and Health Sciences for the first time attend New Student Orientation during their first week on campus.
This gives new students time to acclimate to island life, connect with fellow classmates, and be introduced to the campus, academic programs, and student services.
Seminars occur during orientation to help new students become familiar with their unique living environment. Students meet with the St. Kitts police to learn about traffic safety and security. Local government officials will discuss visas, immigration, and national security. Campus tours take place that orient students to the Ann Ross Library and the Learning Resource Center.
A bus tour of St. Kitts helps new students get acquainted with the island, where stores are located, and what the capital city of Basseterre is like.
Representatives from Cable and Wireless (telephones), 888 Long Distance (phone cards) and the cable company will be available to meet with new students.
In addition, student will enjoy a great afternoon on a 100-foot catamaran. During this time, students will be able to swim, snorkel, kick back, and enjoy the beauty of St. Kitts.
Student Class Registration
Registration for each new semester occurs at the end of orientation. New students will obtain their univeristy identification badges at that time. All students will receive their class schedules at registration. Representatives from the UMHS Financial Aid office will be available during registration to assist students and respond to any questions.
Support Services
New students are assigned a faculty member advisor who are available to provide academic and professional counseling. A counselor is available on campus to students seeking personal counseling.
