Off-Campus Housing Print E-mail

The University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts (UMHS) maintains a housing department on the St. Kitts campus.  The Housing Department helps students secure the right accommodations to suit each individual's needs.

Off -Campus Housing

Students live in off-campus during their time at UMHS-St. Kitts.  housing.jpgMany apartments are near the University campus.

Apartments are fully furnished, so students will only need to bring bedding, towels, their personal needs, and clothing.  Groceries are readily available at local stores.

UMHS entered into an agreement with the Royal St. Kitts Resort and Casino to rent part of their facilities for student housing.  Each room includes one bed, desk with chair, television with cable TV, and a small refrigerator.

The Royal St. Kitts is a beautiful resort located in Frigate Bay.  The university provides transportation for students that live there.  Its amenities include two pools, restaurants, gym, and ocean front bar and grill.

Students should contact the UMHS Housing Department to learn more about this unique arrangement between UMHS and the Royal St. Kitts Resort and Casino.

Selecting Housing

Students must secure housing prior to arrival.  Because there are several schools on St. Kitts whose students are vying for apartments, it is recommended that accepted students select an apartment as soon as their financing has been secured.

There are many housing options near campus.  For students choosing to live further from campus, it may be necessary to buy or lease a used car, and that should be considered when determining a budget.

It is also important to note that students must live in their selected apartment for a minimum of one semester.  This requirement gives students time to acclimate to their surroundings and to meet other students.  It also provides landlords ample time to re-rent an apartment at the end of a semester.

Housing Database

UMHS provides accepted students with access to a housing database of local rental properties.

There are a wide variety of rental units to fit every need and budget.  The database includes descriptions of the property, rental price, proximity to school, and amenities. Photos of typical housing can be accessed via the Internet.

Link to Database: Housing Database [Note: The housing database is shared with International University of Nursing (IUON.ORG).

The username/password for the housing database is included in the Welcome Package sent to every accepted student.  The Housing Department will also provide accepted students with the username/password upon request.

Roommates

Students interested in finding a roommate should let the University Housing Department know that.  With student permission, the Housing Department will share contact information so students may talk with each other prior to deciding to room together.

Pets

UMHS highly recommends that pets not be brought to St. Kitts.  The University does not allow pets on campus.  Many landlords do not allow pets in their rental units.  The Government of St. Kitts has strict regulations about brining pets onto the island.

Securing Housing

Once an apartment is selected, the student should immediately contact the UMHS Housing Department who will verify with the landlord whether the unit is still available.  If the unit is available, the Housing Department will immediately email the student a housing deposit form.

To secure the apartment, UMHS will pay the landlord the security deposit on behalf of the student.  To do so, UMHS must receive the deposit form and required security deposit from the student.  It is recommended that the payment be made with a money order or certified bank draft.

The deposit form and security deposit should be sent to:
