Julie Graves, MD, MPH, PhD, FAAFP

Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Ethics, Behavioral Science, and ICM

Dr. Julie Graves is a public health and family medicine physician, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Ethics, Behavioral Science, and ICM at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences on St. Kitts and Nevis, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Management, Policy, and Community Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health.


Previously she served as regional medical director for the Texas Department of State Health Services for the 7 million population Houston area, medical services coordinator for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services's 13 State Supported Living Centers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and medical consultant for children’s health and for infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance at the Texas Department of Health. She has served on the faculties of medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Centers in Houston and San Antonio, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University, and the American University of the Caribbean.


Dr. Graves was awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University in biology and physical education, MD from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and Masters in Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas School of Public Health where she studied health policy, management, and biostatistics.


She has published and lectured on topics ranging from comparative health information technology policy to communicable disease control to health law, served in the preparedness and response to natural disasters and Superbowl 51, consulted with US Soccer on vector-borne disease prevention, and served on the medical staffs for the Austin City Limits and Old Settlers music festivals. She has practiced family medicine, public health, and emergency medicine in the USA, St. Maarten, Tanzania, and on a cruise ship, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She is immediate past Chair of the Science Board, immediate past Co-chair of the Joint Policy Committee, and former Executive Committee member of the American Public Health Association.
